The interest in Photography began in adolescence, at age 12 during a school activity at the former FAOJ in Beja, where Heitor studied at the time. that day He entered, for the first time, in a photography lab never leaving that world again. The passion for the art was so intense that after 15 days he was already printing his own images (frames) in a tiny laboratory improvised at home. Till this day, Heitor is not sure if he discovered photography or if it was the other way around.

With the evolution of photography and the equipment itself, Jerónimo decided in 1988 to invest in Évora, where he still lives, in a photographic equipment store and photography laboratory. Trade absorbed him in such a way that only after twelve years, after a seminar in Spain where he met the photographer and speaker Salvador Martinez, he returned to the art of Photography.

The work of Jerónimo Heitor Coelho has earned numerous distinctions in recent years. From where the award of eight certificates QEP (Qualified European Photographer) in different areas; in 2010 he received the Master's distinction QEP.

For photographic merits he received the distinctions of the Association of Professional Photographers (AFP) of Distinguished Photographer and Specialist Photographer and for accumulation of merits received in the year 2021 the distinction of Triple Master Photographer granted by APPImagem. In 2021 he received the Photographer of the Year award by APPImagem. In 2015 he received the award "Prix de la Littérature Gastronomique" by the International Academy of Gastronomy/Paris, for his book "Comer em Évora".

In the last two decades, Jerónimo has attended as a Mentor and speaker in numerous Masterclasses and Workshops linked to photography, nationally and internationally.

Author of several author’s photographic books, he also has within his work more than 35 edited books and participation in several solo and collective exhibitions.
